Bordeaux Through The Ages

While Dom Perignon is said to have urged his fellow monks to come and drink the stars, here is your opportunity to taste history. Our Sarasota chapter will host a small group of Commandeurs (in person) at Mark and Jane Esbeck’s home to join Sheri Morano MW and other U.S. chapters via Zoom for a 90-minute tasting through the ages. Sheri will present her selection of Bordeaux wines, each highlighting a theme unique to the history of the region. The tasting will begin with a focus on the early influence of the Romans and then move on to discussing some of the early styles of wines produced in the region. We’ll touch upon the role that Eleanor of Aquitaine played, as well as the influence of the Dutch. The final wines will highlight how Bordeaux has adapted – first to phylloxera and climate change and then to critics and changing tastes.
